Biography

Charlize-Nhung Nguyễn is a Vietnamese-born Canadian artist whose work focuses on the relationship between design object and its medium. With a background in Architecture and Goldsmith, she often works at the intersection of contemporary design and Craft’s theory. In addition to her background, she holds a BFA in Material Arts and Design from OCAD University. Her 2018 exhibition Exodus: The Boat and I had won awards and scholarships including the OCAD University’s Medal, the Carol Rapp Contemporary Jewellery, and a one-year scholarship Artist-In-Residence at the Craft and Design studio of Harbourfront Centre. Her work has won competition, commissions and exhibited in shows in Canada, the United States, and Southeastern Europe.

Artist Statement

"I play with form, space, and contemporary material design to narrate an intimate experience. As a survivor of the Vietnamese Diasporas - the Boat People, I seek authenticity of my work through my concept and the diasporic relationships. Thus, allowing my process to cross disciplines where needed." Charlize-Nhung
